    News — convention

    Designercon!

    Designercon!

For cryin' out loud I can't even express to you how excited I am to be included as an exhibitor at Designercon this year. I have attended the show for the last 2 years and I have to see it's one of if not my favorite convention. I tried to get in as a vendor last year but I applied too late lol. This year I think I applied about 4 times, just to be sure.

The reason I say it's my favorite is because it embodies everything I love about art. So many vastly different artists with vastly different styles are represented at this show. There's truly something for everyone. Personally, I'm geeking out a bit because so many of my design heroes have exhibited at this show and will be back this year! It brings be back to the days of art school when I would get tons of art magazines like Juxtapose and just pour over all the different inspiring people and their work. Pretty sure that's how I discovered Tara Mcpherson my absolute favorite artist and inspiration who typically exhibits at the show! Designercon is like Juxtapose in real life.

I also love how it has given a platform to so many aspiring creatives with little to no criteria. Whatever medium, whatever style, you are welcome at designercon to put yourself out into the art community. There is such a wide range of art too from toys to wall art, jewelry and apparel. As much as I'll be an exhibitor at the show, I'm also a fan and a patron. You can bet that the few minutes I spend away from the Sugar Bunch booth, my ass will be roaming the aisles looking for new art to hang in our house, shirts, accessories and ahhhhh!

As I've never exhibited at this show, I really have no idea what to expect and have tried to prepare as much as possible. I wanted to have a good showing for all the people that have never heard of the bunch but are hopefully about to love it. You can expect our most beautiful set up to date! We'll have some T-shirts from the new Fall to the Beat line as well as some classics. I'm looking to have more beauty products and will have 2 new enamel pins! As another show exclusive, we collabed with Kaiju Cut & Sew to make some Fry-Yay fanny packs and pencil pouches! For the first time, we will have a very small amount of Giclee prints of the Space Needle Design.

I can't wait to see everyone and experience this show as a vendor. I hope to see a lot of you there! Along with items to purchase, we'll have some freebies for saying hi and extra goodies for purchase :)

Tickets are on sale right now! You can be a VIP and get access to the preview night on Friday along with the rest of the weekend, you can just a weekender or come out for just the day!

Not only would you be supporting ya gurl, but you will see hundreds of artists and be overwhelmed with all the cool shit at the show. That's a promise! We'll be at booth #946

    Hope to see you there!

    Forever ya gurl,
    Jess & Sugar Bunch

    RTX Austin 2017 - Recap

    RTX Austin 2017 - Recap

So the dust has settled but the afterglow remains. Every time I think of RTX Austin  2017, it's a bitter sweet feeling. Sweet because I had such a blast, but I'm all bitter that it's over.

As I have mentioned before this was my first time exhibiting as an artist at this show or anywhere! Admittedly I was a bit nervous. I had no way of knowing if what I had prepared would be sufficient as far as my booth display, my merch items and supplies. With the help of some experienced con goers I had a base but of course every brand and every show is different (so I hear). What if my booth looked terrible, what if I forget something like the credit card reader, what if I didn't bring enough to sell, what if no one comes by at all??? O_O These are the questions that plagued me leading up to the event. I'm happy to report that nothing catastrophic happened!

I had plenty to sell, I didn't forget anything important, I met so many amazing people and my booth looked pretty damn good if I do say so myself.

Though I'm really proud of myself/the brand and consider it a great success, I definitely learned a lot and have a lot of ideas for next time. That's right I said next time! I've caught the bug and this is definitely something I want to do again, at future RTX events and other shows alike! I'd love to have more design options to share, a variety of products and will remember to drink more water early on :P

I put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into this effort (ok thankfully no blood and very few tears) but I have to give a shout out to everyone who helped because I COULD NOT have done it alone. My very good friend Miranda was my amazing partner all weekend helping me manage the booth, keep me company and everything in between. So thankful to have a friend like her that offered to come out to Austin and help me like it ain't no thang! My husband Adam was a constant source of encouragement and support leading up to the show. He even helped me lug all the product and break down after the show.

The guardians that volunteered for the show out of their passion and kind hearts were a life saver all weekend and just about the sweetest people ever. Roosterteeth and the incredibly hard working people that run and put on the event are rockstars and magic makers. I thrived because of their dedication and professionalism. I worked with a handful of incredible vendors to provide my products, special shout out to Not Soap, Radio for the most amazing collab pieces. Last but not least, the fans and community! I can't extend enough gratitude to everyone that came by my booth that I got to meet and chat with, everyone that purchased anything and all the people showing support from afar on social media with kind words and following my posts all weekend.

I'm truly humbled by this experience. To be able to create and show off my passion with the world is an honor and having so many people take an interest is just...well I have no words. Just from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

I'm counting down the days until RTX Austin 2018 to see all of those lovely people again and hopefully lots of new faces! Off of this con high, I'm brewing all sorts of ideas, new desings/products and all sorts of fun stuff. So please hang with me, this is just the beginning ;)

    Sincerely the sincerest,
    <3 Jess
